The supernova is becoming brighter!

What a fortune to have it find in the pre maximum phase!

...... Waiting the complete curve now Smile

SUPERNOVA 2005kc IN NGC 7311
M. Peeples, J. Eastman, V. Simha, K. Denny, J. Prieto, R. Assef, D. DePoy, S. Dorsher, J. Marshall, I. H. Park, S. Poindexter, K. Schlesinger, R. Siverd, and L. Watson, Ohio State University, report that a spectrogram (range 390-730 nm) of SN 2005kc (cf. IAUC 8629), taken on Nov. 12.2 UT at the MDM 2.4-m telescope (+ CCDS), shows it to be a type-Ia supernova.
The spectrum is consistent with that of SN 1992A one day before maximum light. The Si II absorption feature was found to have a blueshift of 11000 km/s after correcting for the recession velocity 4533 km/s of NGC 7311 from de Vaucoulerus et al. (1991, Third Reference Catalogue of Bright Galaxies, Springer Verlag; via NED).

What are preliminary results? Has the type been determined by now?

SUPERNOVA 2005kc IN NGC 7311

This supernova has brightened significantly from last week: unfiltered CCD imaging obtained on Nov. 19.73, provides a magnitude of almost 15.6 m (from Giovanni's e-mail)

The object seems very interesting. The 10 m Keck telescope was shifted to observe this supernova.
